A dilated cardiomyopathy that is characterized by refractory ventricular arrhythmias and severe heart failure and that has_material_basis_in homozygous mutation in the BAG5 gene on chromosome 14q32.

• Congestive heart failure
• Dilated cardiomyopathy
• Ventricular fibrillation
• Increased circulating brain natriuretic peptide concentration
• Increased left ventricular end-diastolic volume
• Ventricular tachycardia
• Severely reduced left ventricular ejection fraction
