A multiple endocrine neoplasia characterized by medullary carcinoma of the thyroid, pheochromocytoma, hyperparathyroidism, and occasionally cutaneous lichen amyloidosis.

Signs and symptoms

  • Thyroid nodule
  • Elevated circulating calcitonin concentration
  • Hyperparathyroidism
  • Elevated urinary epinephrine level
  • Elevated urinary norepinephrine level
  • Elevated urinary vanillylmandelic acid
  • Medullary thyroid carcinoma
  • Elevated urinary dopamine level
  • Aganglionic megacolon
  • Cutaneous lichen amyloidosis
