polycythemia vera

A myeloproliferative neoplasm characterized by erythroid hyperplasia, myeloid leukocytosis, thrombocytosis, and splenomegaly.

Signs and symptoms

• Splenomegaly
• Cerebral hemorrhage
• Increased megakaryocyte count
• Thromboembolism
• Increased circulating hemoglobin concentration
• Abnormal thrombosis
• Increased hematocrit
• Budd-Chiari syndrome
• Cerebral ischemia
• Gastrointestinal hemorrhage
