scapuloperoneal myopathy

A muscular dystrophy which begins at the lower legs and affects the shoulder region earlier and more severely than distal arm.

Signs and symptoms

• Elevated circulating creatine kinase activity
• Foot dorsiflexor weakness
• Hyporeflexia
• Skeletal muscle atrophy
• Steppage gait
• Scapular winging
• Lower limb muscle weakness
• Waddling gait
• Myofibrillar myopathy
• Proximal muscle weakness
